Frequently Asked Questions

What is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray medication, taken with an oral antidepressant, for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions.

How does the treatment work?

SPRAVATO® works differently than traditional antidepressants. It targets the NMDA receptor in the brain, which is thought to help restore neural connections in brain regions involved in mood regulation.

How long does each session take?

Each treatment session requires a mandatory 2-hour monitoring period in our clinic after you administer the nasal spray. This is to ensure your safety and monitor for any side effects like blood pressure changes or sedation.

Is it covered by insurance?

Yes, SPRAVATO® is covered by most major commercial insurance plans and Medicare when certain clinical criteria are met. Our team handles the prior authorization process for you.

Who qualifies for treatment?

You may be a candidate if you are 18 years or older, diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, have tried at least 2 antidepressants without success, are still experiencing symptoms, and are taking or willing to take oral antidepressants. Severe depression with suicidal thoughts may also qualify.

Is it safe?

SPRAVATO® is safe when administered in a REMS-certified clinic like ours. Common side effects include dissociation, dizziness, nausea, and temporary increases in blood pressure, which is why medical supervision is required.
